Introduction

Sidhu Brothers is one of Malaysia’s largest palm oil and water transporters. The company retains the same commitment, dedication, loyalty and passion that was the genesis for its first haul over 40 years ago. Today, their fleet comprises 83 premium Mercedes Benz, Scania, Volvo and TATA heavy commercial vehicles. These are used mainly for tanker haulage services. Sidhu Brothers and Active Telematics have worked together since 2014.

The Challenge

Sidhu Brothers has invested regularly to upgrade its fleet. Their ongoing investment in design makes their trucks safer, ergonomically better to drive, delivers better fuel economies and improved productivity.

The challenge for Active Telematics has been to keep pace with Sidhu Brothers vision for a perpetually more efficient fleet, and ensure that is realised by the application of our ingenuity, know-how and inspiration in the work that we do.

What we did

Active Telematics’ Pro CAN Tracker offering has gone from being a 2G, to a 3G and is today a 4G solution. With our latest 4G Pro CAN Tracker, not only do we provide real-time fleet management information but we also capture CANBUS J1939 data directly from the truck’s EMS and direct it to our ActiveWeb E platform.

This enables a controller to see exactly the same info visible to a driver, including: actual and total fuel; distance, accelerator and brake pedal status, distance, engine brake status, hours and performance, RPM, Speed and more. The analysis of this data is interpreted and relayed to Sidhu Brothers, for fleet operations’ productivity, planning and maintenance.

Outcomes

Sidhu Brothers benefits in three main ways from our work together.

First, in making its own assets and the products they carry for customers more secure. For example, in real-time monitoring of waiting times during load pick-ups/and deliveries, and tracking fleet movements related to ‘no go’ or ‘hotspot’ areas.

Second, in reducing cost and inefficiencies, through the monitoring of excessive idling and vehicle refuelling, and their impacts on fuel loss.

And third, through a proactive, preventive maintenance program by Active Telematics that ultimately reduces fleet downtime.
